It is a fairly extensive collection and you can easily spend a good bit of time strolling through the exhibits.
One of the main focuses of the museum is to largely feature local artists. In particular, the museum has a large collection of works from professors and students of the Black Mountain College. The Black Mountain College was open from to and was a major art institute in the area.
It also has a growing collection of Native artwork from Indigenous peoples from the Cherokee Nation. There are a few House Museums in Asheville.
